During the COVID-19 pandemic, Punch Drunk and Dreamtek produced a broadcast-style virtual launch for HP’s new Chromebooks, combining live executive chats, cinematic footage, and custom graphics to engage global audiences despite in-person restrictions.

Overview

For the May 2020 Chromebook Launch Event, Punch Drunk collaborated with Dreamtek to deliver a high-impact virtual broadcast for partners HP, Intel, and Google. With live events halted by COVID-19 restrictions, this project represented a unique and timely solution, demonstrating how creative production could adapt to the challenges of remote collaboration and still deliver a broadcast-quality experience.

This project stood out during the pandemic as an innovative virtual solution, seamlessly blending remote production, executive presence, and polished visuals to create a launch event that felt every bit as dynamic and engaging as an in-person production.

Imagery

The video above is a B-Roll string-out showcasing the product video and motion graphics we created as part of the project. This footage was produced first, then used in the overall composite video, which used this and other material to thread together a conversation between Andy Rhodes (HP), Chris Walker (Intel), and John Solomon (Google). Screenshots below include images from the product B-Roll shoot, motion graphics, behind-the-scenes, and screenshots from the final composited piece which was used for the public-facing product launch.

Punch Drunk’s Role

  • Coordinated shoot days with Dreamtek and presenting groups.
  • Directed the three-way live video chat featuring senior stakeholders.
  • Filmed cinematic B-roll of Chromebook devices. This involved building and lighting a custom set, with a motorized turntable base, to capture stunning imagery of these Chromebooks.
  • Designed slide decks and graphics to support the topics being discussed throughout the presentation.
  • Designed motion graphics to highlight product features.
  • Managed editing and final delivery under a tight deadline.

Partners

  • Dreamtek coordinated and directed the overall project. They put built the timeline, co-created the script, and owned this piece from start to finish. This also included managing technical production of the multi-way video chat: setup, recording, and remote contribution kits.
  • HP, Intel, and Google provided the core content, on-camera talent, product assets, and creative oversight to ensure brand alignment.
