Punch Drunk was brought on board to provide live iMag and video projection for the launch party at the brewery the night the “R” was hoisted back to the brewery rooftop. Our involvement quickly grew, and within a few days of our initial meeting we were on board to provide all sound, lights, video, power, and related logistics for the entire event.

“For almost half a century it lit up the sky. A beacon for road-weary travelers on I-5. A constant red reminder…Seattle: home of Rainier Beer. Now, after a 13-year absence, this skyline fixture will be returned to it’s rightful perch… Bringing back a landmark… A symbol of seattle… The raising of the R. Come out to the rainier brewery on october 24th to be part of history.”

Overview

Rainier Beer has occupied an important place in Seattle’s history since its inception in 1884. The beer spawned a loyal following as a colorful culture grew up around the fizzy lager throughout the Northwest. When the brewery was sold to Tully’s Coffee, the iconic neon red “R” was removed from the rooftop and replaced by a neon green “T.” This was in 2000. Thirteen years later, on October 24th, 2013, the historic Rainier “R” came home.

We also created a custom video countdown for the raising of the R.

We worked with Western Neon to crane-hoist 2 spotlights to an adjacent rooftop with an HD camera/sport lens package, and then mounted a wireless HD transmitter to the “R” itself with a receiver mounted on another rooftop and connected to our video FOH through 2000′ of fiber optic cable. The live video elements were seen by attendees on 80″ LCD screens and one giant inflatable outdoor screen.

Event producer Connie Wohn from Styleus503 helmed the event for Pabst and Alexander Party Rents provided translucent tents so party-goers would always have a view of the action. Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn delivered a great ribbon-cutting speech and the Rainier Beer was flowing like water. Punch Drunk is proud to have been a part of this historic and memorable event!

Andy Gurjian and Brandon Carr of Rainier Beer / Pabst Brewing Co.:

"Punch Drunk is one of the most creative, driven and hardworking companies we have ever had the privilege of working with. Not only did they take our vision and turn it into reality, they brought their own thoughts, ideas, and creative elements to the table, pushing the envelope and taking our event to the next level... We cannot wait to team with them again!"
